You started the business.
Now what?
Nobody hands you a manual on day one. You are figuring out pricing, customers, websites, taxes, and marketing all at once - usually while still doing the actual work you started the business to do.
Let's sort out what matters first.
A 30-minute conversation with Christina Shrive, who works with new owners every day. No cost, no pitch.
You might be any one of these
What you have in common is this: you've done this before, in some form - and you don't want to repeat the parts that drained you. You want the next chapter to fit your values, your time, and the life you're building now.
You are not just the founder. You are everyone.
The early stage is not only about starting a business. It is about learning how to operate one - while you are already operating it.
You are the marketer, the bookkeeper, the salesperson, the operations lead, and the person who actually delivers the work. Most new owners we meet are not struggling because the idea is weak. They are struggling because the structure and direction are still forming.
That is a normal part of building something new.
If you have thought any of this, you are in the right place
These are the things new business owners tell us in their first conversation. Every one of them has an answer.
The early stage feels uncertain because it is
You are building something that did not exist before, and that takes experimentation, learning, and a lot of decisions made without much to go on. The right guidance at the right time makes it far smoother. We will help you name what comes first, skip the expensive detours, and build a foundation you will not have to redo in a year.

We are not going to hand a brand new business a corporate marketing plan it cannot use. Depending on your situation, here is where we usually start.
Reduce the decision fatigue
Starting a business is a constant stream of decisions, and it is exhausting to second-guess every one. We give you structure so you can stop deliberating and start moving.
Figure out what comes first
When everything feels important, nothing gets finished. We help you identify what matters now, what can wait, and what to skip entirely.
Define what you are actually selling
Many new owners struggle to describe their own services clearly. We help you shape an offer that is easy to understand, priced sensibly, and aligned with what you do best.
Pick who to focus on first
Trying to speak to everyone usually means connecting with no one. We help you narrow to the people most likely to buy, so your effort goes further.
Say it so people get it
It is not only what you do, it is how you explain it. We help you articulate who you serve and why it matters, in language a stranger understands in five seconds.
Set up the plumbing
A business runs on how things get done. Simple, practical systems for scheduling, invoicing, follow-up, and delivery - without overcomplicating anything.
Buy only what you need
There are endless platforms competing for your budget. Most new businesses need very few of them. We help you choose what is necessary now and ignore the rest.
Build an approach that fits your capacity
Marketing does not have to mean doing everything. We build a simple, consistent presence that fits the time and energy you actually have.
Get help doing the work
Some owners want to learn to do it themselves. Others want it handled. Our team can take pieces off your plate, teach you to run them, or split the difference.
Three steps, in this order
There is a reason we do it this way. Skipping straight to tactics is how new businesses end up with a logo, six social accounts, and no customers.
Discover
We get an honest picture of your business today - what exists, what is missing, and how you show up when someone goes looking for you.
Strategize
We turn that picture into a plan that fits your budget, your time, and the customers you are actually trying to reach. You will know what comes first and why.
Execute
You do the work, we do the work, or we split it. What matters is that it gets done and that you can see whether it is working.
Tactics before foundation
In the beginning it is easy to spend money on the visible things - a website, a logo, advertising, a full social media calendar. Those things can absolutely matter. But without clear positioning and priorities, they rarely produce consistent results.
At this stage you do not need more tactics. You need a foundation. The goal is not to do everything. It is to do the right things, in the right order.
- Get clear on what you are building and who it is for
- Define priorities so your time is focused
- Set up simple systems that fit how you actually work
- Choose only the tools your stage requires
- Build a presence people can find and understand
When those pieces are in place, everything else gets easier. Marketing works better. Decisions get faster. Growth becomes manageable.
You are not expected to already know this
A lot of new owners feel like they should figure everything out alone first - like asking for help this early means they missed something they should have known. They did not. Nobody is born knowing how to run a business.
Consulting is a place to pause, ask questions, and think through what makes sense for your business before you spend money going the wrong direction.
- Understand what actually matters first
- Make confident, informed decisions
- Avoid the expensive early mistakes
- Turn ideas into clear next steps
- Build a foundation from the beginning instead of retrofitting one later
Consulting is not about doing more. It is about doing what matters, at the right time.

Do I need to have everything figured out before we talk?
No. Most new owners come in unsure about their direction, and that is completely normal. You do not need a perfect plan - you need a starting point. We bring structure to what you already have.
Am I too early to work with a consultant?
Usually earlier than people think is exactly right. Most of the expensive early problems - wasted spend, unclear messaging, inconsistent growth - come from not having a foundation. Getting help early is how you avoid trial and error you cannot afford. If we think you would be better served waiting, we will tell you that too.
What should I focus on first?
Less about doing more, more about doing things in the right order. We typically start with:
- Clarifying your offer
- Identifying your audience
- Defining your positioning
- Setting clear priorities
Once those are in place, marketing, tools, and growth get much easier to manage.
What if I am still working full-time or building this part-time?
Very common, and not a problem. We build a plan that fits your actual time and energy, so you are not trying to operate like a full-scale business before you are one.
Do I need a website, branding, or social media right away?
Not always. These can help, but they are not the first priority for every business. Without clarity on your offer and audience, they usually underperform. We help you decide what is actually necessary for your stage.
What if I do not have a marketing budget yet?
Then we focus on what does not cost much: claiming your listings, asking for reviews, tightening your message, making sure people can find and contact you. Those are the highest-return moves for most new businesses anyway, and advertising rarely fixes a foundation that is not there yet.
Will I be expected to buy a lot of tools and platforms?
No - we push in the opposite direction. We help you choose only what you need so you avoid unnecessary cost, complexity, and distraction.
How do I find my first clients?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but there is a method. We help you identify where your audience already is, how to communicate your value clearly, and what practical steps get you early traction without overcomplicating it.
I am overwhelmed by all the advice online. How do I know what to follow?
This is one of the most common things we hear. Most of that advice is not wrong - it is just written for a different stage or a different business. We help you filter out what does not apply to you right now.
How is this different from a business course or online program?
Courses give you general information. Consulting gives you personalized guidance based on your specific situation. Instead of trying to translate generic advice to your business, you get direct answers about your business.
Can you just do the work for me?
Yes. Our team handles websites, listings, content, email, social, and SEO for clients who would rather stay focused on running the business. You can also take a mixed approach - we handle the technical pieces, you handle the parts only you can do.
What kind of results should I expect at this stage?
Early on, success looks less like revenue spikes and more like:
- Clarity in your direction
- Confidence in your decisions
- A simple plan you can actually follow
- A foundation that supports growth
That is what sets up consistent results over time.
Is this only for a certain type of business?
We work with small businesses, nonprofits, and professional service providers across the country. The specifics change by industry, but the questions a brand new owner faces are remarkably consistent.
What happens on a Clarity Call?
A relaxed conversation with Christina, about 30 minutes over Zoom. She learns where you are, you talk through your ideas and what has you stuck, and together you identify your next best steps. You leave with more clarity regardless of what you decide to do next. No cost, no pressure, no presentation.
Can Mindful Marketing help me get my business off the ground?
That is the work we love most. We will help you clarify your offer and audience, decide what deserves your time and money first, set up the simple systems that keep a new business running, and build a marketing presence that fits your actual capacity. Whether you want guidance while you do it yourself or a team that handles the execution, both are on the table.
